Bears, Monkeys, and Cats, Oh My!

Essential Questions:

  • Why should we care about monkeys and apes?

  • How can we teach others about monkeys and apes?

Project Summary:

Though this project our students will learn skills to support them in accessing non-fiction texts and will delve into the world of "reading to learn". They will work collaboratively to confirm prior knowledge, define new key learnings, and push their thinking by pondering questions that arise as they discover new content.

In the second phase of this project students will transform their learning into powerful non-fiction narratives. They will study the craft of this genre and focus on making their own writing come to life while teaching their reader relevant and interesting information. Students will also participate in peer critique as they work on a realistic illustration that will compliment their story. Finally, students will practice and strengthen their reading fluency and expression as they prepare to record their story readings for the final published e-book.

Our beautiful work will be exhibited on Thursday, March 26th at Fiesta Del Sol!
